Study in Portugal Network - An Unique Network of Lisbon's Top Schools

SiPN students have full access to all member universities within our network.

All the universities in the SiPN network are accredited by the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education.

All Lisbon-based SiPN partner universities are located very close to one another. Commute times vary from 5 to 30min using public transportation.

Currently, SiPN only offers programs in Lisbon and in the Azores, but wishes to extend its programming to the rest of the country through future partnerships with other Portuguese universities.

University Institute of Lisbon


The ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon was founded in 1972 as one of Portugal’s first modern universities, with the central aim of studying labor and social dynamics in a rapidly changing world. Since its establishment, the university has expanded its disciplinary reach into four schools: ISCTE International Business School (AACSB accredited), the School of Sociology and Public Policy, the School of Technology and Architecture, and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities.

On campus, students will find robust intellectual tradition, mentorship from teaching staff involved in cutting-edge research, and a vibrant, multicultural environment. Of the approximately 10 000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, nearly 20% are international, coming from 80 different countries.

Universidade Católica Portuguesa

Over the past 50 years Universidade Católica Portuguesa has drawn on the great tradition of Catholic universities to develop an internationally minded transformational education and research model.


The Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) is privately funded and recognized by the Portuguese State as a free, autonomous university institution of public utility. UCP is recognized for the quality of its teaching, excellence in research, and education for citizenship and human values, boasting amongst its alumni a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, several of the top CEO’s in the world, and recognized leaders in European politics, international law, economics and the arts.

The Catholic University of Portugal is a national university with 4 regional campi: Lisbon (headquarters), Porto, Braga and Viseu.

* Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics is a triple crown accredited School ranking 25 on the Financial Times Business School List. Membership in this Elite group means the School is among the top 1% of business schools worldwide to be accredited by all 3 management associations EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB. CLSBE is the only Portuguese School among the FT Top 25 and the best Business School in Portugal for the 7th year. Currently, 40% of CLSBE’s Professors are foreign and come from diverse countries, such as Italy, Turkey, Canada and Finland. The increased internationalization of the School can also be felt in the classroom, where more than half of the students are foreign, representing more than 50 nationalities.

** UCP’s Law School has also been consistently recognized by the Financial Times, which has selected Católica Global School of Law as one of the most innovative law schools in the world, with its LL.M. programmes being included for the fourth consecutive year in this prestigious selection. University of Lisbon

Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the largest and one of the most prestigious universities in Portugal. It is also one of Europe’s leading universities. Heir to a university tradition that spans over seven centuries, ULisboa acquired its current status in July 2013, following the merge of the former Universidade Técnica de Lisboa and Universidade de Lisboa.

ULisboa brings together various areas of knowledge and has a privileged position for facilitating the contemporary evolution of science, technology, arts and humanities. The quality of teaching, research, innovation, and culture of ULisboa is attracting an ever-increasing amount of talent from around the world.

According to one of the most notable rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities 2015, the newly founded University of Lisbon is ranked 1st in Portugal and 201-300 (overall) in the world. In the discipline of Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences, the university is ranked 76-100 worldwide.

Universidade Nova de Lisboa

NOVA University of Lisbon


Founded in 1973, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa is the youngest of Lisbon’s three public state universities. Integrated within a framework of expansion and diversification of higher education, the University adopted a new model within the Portuguese system that stressed interdisciplinary approaches, technological developments while, at the same time, safeguarding offerings in traditional academic domains including medicine, sciences, and humanities.

NOVA is a decentralized university; its faculties and institutes enjoy a great deal of autonomy. In the academic year 2009/2010, NOVA had 18.343 enrolled students, 1 449 teachers, 769 non-academic staff, and 237 researchers.

There are 3 Schools of NOVA that integrate SiPN (located 15 away from each other on foot)

*Founded in 1977, the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (Faculty of Social  Sciences and  Humanities)  is an interdisciplinary unit with teaching and research objectives, characterized by diversity and creativity of knowledge. Located near Lisbon city center,  it hosts a total of 5,269  students, 2,909  in undergraduate programs, 1,718  in masters, and 642 in Ph.D. programs. It has 325 professors, almost all holding Ph.D. degrees.

FCSH offers 14 undergraduate programs, during which students can benefit from mobility initiatives (e.g.: Erasmus),  annually involving more than 350 students. In graduate training, FCSH offers nine postgraduate programs, 50 master’s degrees, and 26 Ph.D. degrees.

 

** Founded in 1989, NOVA IMS  is the School of Statistics and Information Management of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Nova IMS  has the 1st Bachelor Degree in Europe accredited in Information Systems by ABET, a North American accrediting agency, recognized as the worldwide leader in assuring quality and stimulating innovation in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technologies. It is also is the 1st university outside the USA to obtain the GEOINT (Geospatial Intelligence) accreditation by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) . The USGIF is the only global organization dedicated to promoting the professional practice of Geospatial Intelligence and building a community of interest across the industry, academia, the Public Administration, and professional organizations.

 

*** The Faculty of Law at the NOVA (New) University of Lisbon is usually known by its acronym FDUNL, or by the more affectionate ‘Nova – Direito’. It is the youngest and most advanced Portuguese provider of education in law. It was founded in 1996, under the initiative of Professor Diogo Freitas do Amaral, in order to challenge a rather conservative, traditional way of teaching and learning law in Portugal.

All degrees are fully recognized and accredited, and comply with Portuguese and European higher education requirements.

UAzores is organized in three campi located in different islands (Ponta Delgada campus is in S. Miguel Island; Angra do Heroísmo campus is in Terceira island and Horta campus is in Faial island).
